Catholics aren’t very good at evangelization. We really aren’t. I hope to change that. My name is Gary Niemerg and I’m the Director of Religious Education at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
I started this blog to address the topic of evangelization with my fellow Catholics, and anyone else who might wish to join us. The New Evangelization has, finally, received a lot of press lately in Catholic circles and that is great, but I still don’t see much action in helping it to come about. Oh, we run programs that try to DO evangelization, often times unsuccessfully, but nobody ever seems to want to do the initial step and that is to EDUCATE Catholics on what evangelization is, what it isn’t, and how we are ALL called to do it! We put the proverbial “cart before the horse” and we have to change that. Education on evangelization must come first and THEN we can run the programs that actually do evangelization…and be amazed that we now have a heck of a lot more folks joining us because they get it now. They won’t run and hide when the topic of religion comes up.
I hope to do my part this year for our parishioners, who will be joining us on this blog, and for as many other people that I can. I hope you can join us!
